1.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: Email address, name, and password when you create an account
- Financial Data: Transactions, budgets, bills, income sources, and financial goals you enter into the app
- Payment Information: If you subscribe to Premium, payment processing is handled securely by Apple through the App Store
1.2 Information We Collect Automatically
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers
- Usage Data: How you interact with the app, features used, and session duration
- Crash Reports: Technical data to help us fix bugs and improve stability
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Plaid Integration: If you choose to connect your bank accounts, Plaid provides us with transaction data, account balances, and account information. Plaid's use of your data is governed by their Privacy Policy.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve Budget Coach AI
- Process and categorize your financial transactions
- Generate AI-powered insights and recommendations
- Send bill reminders and budget alerts you've requested
- Sync your data across your devices via iCloud
- Respond to your support requests
- Detect and prevent fraud and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Data Storage & Security
Bank-Level Security
Your data is protected with 256-bit AES encryption, the same standard used by major financial institutions. All data transmissions use TLS 1.3 encryption.
3.1 Local Storage
Most of your financial data is stored locally on your device using encrypted Core Data storage. This means your data stays with you and isn't stored on our servers unless you enable iCloud sync.
3.2 Cloud Storage
If you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple's privacy policies. We do not have access to data stored in your iCloud.
3.3 Security Measures
- End-to-end encryption for all data
- Biometric authentication (Face ID/Touch ID) support
- Automatic session timeout after 5 minutes of inactivity
- Secure keychain storage for sensitive credentials
- No storage of bank login credentials on our servers
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in these circumstances:
- Service Providers: With trusted partners who help us operate (e.g., Plaid for bank connections, Claude AI for insights)
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, subpoena, or legal process
- Protection: To protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
5. Your Rights & Choices
You have control over your data:
- Access: Export your data at any time in CSV, PDF, or JSON format
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data from the app settings
- Correction: Edit or update your information within the app
- Opt-Out: Disable analytics, notifications, or cloud sync in settings
- Disconnect: Remove linked bank accounts at any time
6. Children's Privacy
Budget Coach AI is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
7. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this policy.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
